The passing of a good family friend...

On Thursday, March 26th, 2009, a good family friend past away after a long battle with Lung Cancer. Derrold Dahl attended St. Lukes Lutheran Church along with being good friends with my dad. He worked at Northwest Airlines until he was forced to take early retirement due to the Lung Cancer. On March 25th, we had word that Derrold had received the bad news that he maybe had 4 to 6 weeks to live and we were shocked to hear that he passed away the next day. My dad was very disappointed that he could not make it back to MN for the funeral but a severe ear infection and cold kept him from being able to catch a flight back to Bloomington, MN for the funeral.

Mom was going to buy a card, but I suggested that we make handmade cards instead. Derrolds wife, Marilyn, is a crafty person and I knew she would appreciate the heartfeld meaning behind handmade cards.

These are the cards that we made...

The first card is 6x6 card that I helped my mom make using some rubber stamps that I had on hand. The cross is not Stampin' Up and the words we found in an internet search which my mom really liked which we printed on vellum with the swirl stamped pattern from the CTMH Playful Flurishes stamp set (purchased from a friend before I became a Stampin' Up Demonstrator). The pattern paper is Stampin' Up Designer Series Paper Delicate Dots.

The second card I made using exclusively Stampin' Up products:

This card is also 6x6 light tan card stock along with using the Fifth Avenue Floral as the background on the solid card stock. The bottom 1/2 strip is from the Stampin' Up Designer Series Paper Delicate Dots. The wording is from the Sincere Salutations stamp set and the frame is from the Hodgepodge Hardware in styled silver overlaid on 1/2 of the Top Note big shot die. Overlaid on top of the ribbon is a flower cutout from the Fifth Avenue Floral colored in using a blender pen to give a nice watercolor effect.

Our prayers are with the Dahl family and all the fond memories we have fishing, going to breakfast after church and good times with Derrold.

Kaylee's 1st Birthday...

Well, I finally made a card for the youngest niece's 1st birthday which was on March 4th... I'm a little late! Her birthday gift will be in the mail on Monday along with her card.

On the inside, I placed a small cupcake cutout that I stamped and colored.

First Post!

WooHoo... After many months I finally have the beginnings of my scrapbook blog! It was a long process taking several months as I debated the merits of different names, eliminating names and coming up with new names. The process was painful at times and often frustrating. There were some moments where I thought I had the "perfect" blog name only to find out the name already existed in a blog or was the name of a scrapbook store that I had not previously heard of until I did some google searches - boy, was it frustrating when a name I really liked popped up.

Then, a few days ago, I was thinking about one of the nicknames I've had for a long time. Yep... you guessed it -- "Sunny" is one of my nicknames along with smiley :)... It was important that the name of my scrapbook blog be reflective of who I am in a short and sweet title. Often, people have commented on my "Sunny" disposition and joyful view of life while dealing with things like cancer and infertility. These comments along with my view of life along with my desire to live life to its fullest finding joy in all things had me leading to the idea of playing with "Sunny" as a basis for my scrapbook blog...

So, WELCOME to ...

Sunny Girl Scraps
Sincerely,
Sunny Girl Pam :)
