Just Believe Candle Reflections

Stamping on Candles

Just Believe in Watercolor!

I've had this Partylite candle sitting in my bathroom and after my first foray into stamping on a candle I started looking for more candles to stamp on!  This candle which is a similar shade to Certainly Celery was just begging to be stamped on.  It is a fairly tall pillar candle and it needed a stamped pattern that was of a taller nature.

I love the "Just Believe" stamp set that 2010 Convention attendees received for our Make-n-Takes.  For the effect on this candle, I colored the image with the Stampin' Write Markers lightly spritzing the stamp with a water mister after I was done coloring the stamp.  I then stamped the image onto a sheet of tissue paper.

The resulting affect on the candle is beautiful with this candle now sitting front and center on my bathroom vanity.

SunnyGirl Tips:

  • I wrap parchment paper around the candle then heat with my heat gun.  The one time I used wax paper I didn't like the way it melted with the candle and I had issues with air bubbles.
  • When misting a stamp that has been colored with the Stampin' Write Markers, use a very fine mister.
  • Attache stamped image to the candle using a small amount of adhesive such as snail adhesive.

    Whimsical Christmas Card Box

    A Cute Christmas Card Box

I've fallen in love with this fun, whimsical Christmas stamp set!  It has a mix of outline stamps which allow for a variety of Christmas related creativity.  Yesterday, I posted my first video tutorial and this is the final creation resulting from the video.

It was a fun box and I look forward to filling it with 10 cards and envelops following in the same theme using the stamp set, A Cute Christmas.  Keep an eye open for a sampling of the cards that will be going inside this box!

    Card Box Video Tutorial

    Standard Sized 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 Card Box Tutorial!

It's here!  It's here!  I'm so excited to be sharing my very FIRST tutorial!  A few posts back, I had requests for a tutorial on how I make the boxes for my standard cards and here it is.  This is a new foray into the unknown for me.

I actually received a Flip Video Camera in late April as my early Mother's Day gift from my husband and son.  I've used it for a ton of videos of my son while we were visiting Minnesota and my husband was back home in North Carolina but I had not really tried my hand at editing.  For this first video, I just used the editing abilities provided with the Flip program.  I do ask for some leeway :)  There is still much I need to learn about editing videos.

    Pink Fix Box

     PINK FIX times 2!

I'm on a roll!  Yep, I'm really getting my pink fix and I'm loving it.  This recent project is a box that I made to fit the two square candles that I recently made as a gift.  Since these candles were a gift I needed to have packaging so I measured the candles to come up with the dimensions for the box.  Both the base and the cover of the box were each made from one sheet of 8 1/2 x 11 cardstock cut down to 8 1/2 x 10 1/2.  Based on the "depth" of the candles, I scored the paper so the candles would fit inside.

I enjoy making various types of boxes and often I don't use a "template" but instead measure the width and depth of the item I want to put into the box then determine the size of the paper I need to use.  Sometimes all I need is an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of cardstock and other times I need a 12 x 12 sheet of cardstock.

Now, I've been promising a tutorial and I'm working on it for a basic box design.  I hope to post the tutorial early next week.  In the meantime, I hope you enjoy this box:

    Owly Treats

     Owly Sweet Treat Jar

Hoot! Hoot!  So cute and sweet...

This little owl just tops of this sweet little treat jar.  This is a present that I've made that will be filled with some Hershey Caramel Kisses.  I found inspiration for this jar from a friend that had decorated a similar jar for me at a scrapbooking beach retreat we had attended together.

As I was looking through my stamping supplies I saw the little owl stamp and knew that I had to use it on the jar.  I continued with my pink theme since I was having so much fun getting my pink fix.

I hope you enjoy this sweet treat jar!

    Booking A Workshop

    Booking A Workshop!

Today, Stampin' Up! was hosting a Book-A-Thon!  I've made a ton of phone calls and booked a couple of workshops!  It has been a challenge.

When I make these calls, my heartbeat goes wild and I have a tendency to get really nervous!  I've always had a phone phobia and have never been one to talk on the phone for very long.  So, when it comes to calling family, friends and customers about booking a workshop I freeze up and sometimes never get around to actually asking the questions.  The thing is I really enjoy doing workshops!  They are so much fun for me and I especially enjoy meeting new people.  Oh, yeah, sales form workshops are always nice but are not high on my priority list.  My desire is to share my passion for creating handmade cards, scrapbook pages, 3D projects and usable home decor!  It is always rewarding when someone at a workshop has an "ah-ha" moment.

So, why should you book a workshop!  There are various reasons for holding a workshop and maybe you should consider saying "yes" to your demonstrator.  When you say "yes" to hosting a workshop you can expect to receive some standard benefits but there are also other benefits to hosting a workshop!

Here are a few things you can expect from me and Stampin' Up! when you host a workshop:

    •   Free products from Stampin' Up! as part of their hostess package
    •   Exclusive Hostess Stamp Sets and product
    •   Fun time with friends
    •   The hostess receives ALL the items that I demonstrate at the workshop!
    •   The hostess receives a special gift from me as a thank you for hosting the workshop!  The gift varies from month to month.
    •   My expertise!
    •   My "Sunny" outlook on life!
    •   A special little thank you to each person that orders from the workshop!
    •   When someone books a workshop from your workshop, you both receive a special thank you 3D gift!
So, would you consider hosting a workshop?   I do travel for workshops and have hosted workshops as far away as Minnesota on behalf of friends and family.  If you would be interested in hosting a workshop, please call me at (919) 995-4564 or by emailing me at sunnygirlscraps@gmail.com!  On the rare occasion that I cannot do a workshop for you due to the distance involved, I will help match you up with another demonstrator.

Again, if you would be willing to host a workshop!  Please call me.  I look forward to hearing from you and helping you find your inner creativity.

How to have a fun 1st Birthday Celebration!

    Happy Birthday To You...

Happy Birthday, dear Caleb, Happy Birthday to you!

Caleb is ONE!  Today we celebrated our sons 1st birthday.  Well, actually he turned a year old on September 21st but since we had just returned home from vacation we opted not to have his birthday party celebration until today, October 9th!  The past few days have been crazy as we've been trying to pull all the details together.  But we knew all the hard work would be worth the effort.

We had originally invited approximately 45 families including relatives although we knew our relatives would not be able to attend.  Then we found out a neighbor was getting married today so a majority of neighbors that we had invited would not be able to attend.  Our final count came down to 4 families and a few other friends that had said they would be at the party.

Pin Wheel & Candy Wrapper Party Favors!
For decorations, I made pinwheels to decorate our driveway and the Celebrations party hats.  The party favors I made were from the Candy Wrapper die done on my Big Shot with party bubbles placed inside the finished "candy wrapper."   I was surprised at how well the party bubbles fit inside the candy wrapper.  The the kids loved the candy wrappers and were thrilled with the party bubbles inside.  I also had a piece of Whisper White paper sitting next to the party favors for guests to "autograph" and leave a birthday wish for Caleb.  The sheet will then go in Caleb's 1st Birthday Scrapbook.

I also created a custom banner letting everyone know that we were celebrating Caleb's 1st birthday.  The banner was created using the Celebrations Party Banner from Stampin' Up!  Below are two photos showing the banners hanging up over our garage entrance.

The party actually got off to a slow start.  The first family showed up just a little past 12:30 which was the start time for the party then the 2nd family showed up at 1pm but we knew they would be late.  When the other families had not shown up around 1:30 we decide to eat.  In the meantime, I called the other guests we were expecting and one family thought the party was on Sunday so they jumped in the car and came over.  The other family actually arrived after their son's soccer game.  Overall, we had a lot of fun and have some great memories.  Caleb really seemed excited about his gifts and has already played with most of the toys.  When he gets excited, Caleb has a cute little laugh and he starts squeezing his hand together like he is waving bye-bye.

Caleb with his friends Aliana and Luke.

For the party, I also tried my hand at making his birthday cake.  We had thought about having a professional cake made but never got around to ordering the cake.  A friend had mentioned doing an Elmo cake for their son so I checked out my options and decided to make a Teddy Bear cake since Caleb's nickname is Boo Boo Bear or Little Bear.  The cake really was a hit and so cute.  Oh, and I think the cake tasted good and the frosting was perfect.  This photo of the Teddy Bear Cake shows one of Caleb's little friends peaking around the cake.  We were not 100% certain how this cake would turn out so we had also purchased a sheet cake as a back up.  It ends up we didn't need the sheet cake because everyone wanted a piece of the Teddy Bear cake.  The kids especially made certain I knew that they wanted "Teddy Bear Cake!"

I hope you've enjoyed sharing in my son's 1st birthday celebration.  If you like what you see for party decorations, I do offer assistance in planning parties and weddings by providing party favors, custom invitations, decorations and thank you notes.

Now... This is only a teaser post!  You'll be seeing more about Caleb's Party during the Royal Blog Tour because the stamp set that I'm featuring is a key element to his birthday decorations...  So, come back the first weekend of November to see which stamp set I used and how I used the stamp set to help decorate for his birthday bash.

Efficient Scrapbooking - Maximizing your time with sketches!

Sketches - Maximizing Your Scrapbook Time!

I love to scrapbook!  Unfortunately, time isn't always on my side.  So, when I do have the opportunity to scrapbook, it is important I have resources that help me accomplish my scrapbooking goals.  One of the key aspects of my scrapbooking is using sketches or page maps.  What I love about sketches is that it gives me a general layout that I can use especially when I'm tight on time.  Sketches can be a scrapper's best friend.  They are also great for getting your mojo back if you are having difficulties creating a layout from scratch.  I've also used sketches to help me with card layouts.

I recently came across a great article written by Monna Ellithorpe about how scrapbook sketches can help you be more productive with your time especially when scrapbooking!  I encourage you to read the article "Scrapbooking Sketches - 8 Ways to Be More Productive" and implement some of Monna's ideas into your scrapbooking time.
